Kanoodle is an online advertising network, focused on providing targeted sponsored links on the Web’s best sites. The privately held company originated in 1999 as a pay-per-click search engine and was one of the very first providers of sponsored links. Kanoodle's model has since evolved, and now focuses mainly on distributing sponsored link advertisements to major Web properties, outside of just keyword search. Kanoodle uses various methods to target their content ads appropriately, including...* ContextTarget: seen by consumers browsing sites with content relevant to the advertisement * BehaviorTarget: presented to Web surfers based on the type of sites they've visited in the past. BehaviorTarget listings don't necessarily match the material on the Web pages where they are published; rather, they match the interests of the surfer as demonstrated by past behavior. * LocalTarget: tailored to address audiences interested in specific geographic areas, presented on Web sites that focus on those places. Owners of websites, RSS feeds and domains also have the opportunity to partner with Kanoodle through its BrightAds program. Kanoodle publishes its sponsored links on these independent Web sites, and shares the revenue generated by the ads with the site owners. Kanoodle also publishes its sponsored links on parked domains that would otherwise be empty. This program, called DomainHop, provides extra income to the owners of these domains by adding sponsored links that match the theme of the domain name. Kanoodles BehaviorTarget has caused a stir in recent times with privacy advocates calling it a violation of their privacy. It is also worth mentioning that Kannodle is one of a few advertising networks that charges users for signing up. Their signup page states "We charge a $1.00 non-refundable fee to review your BrightAds application and open your account". Copyright 2008 - France BtoB from Wikipédia
