Barcoding Company

Barcoding Inc. works with companies to streamline their manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution operations through the implementation of automatic identification and data collection Auto ID Data Capture (AIDC) systems. Technologies employed include bar code, RFID, Wireless LAN and mobile computers. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, Barcoding Inc. has regional sales offices throughout the United States. The company has received the Inc. 500 and Deloitte Technology Fast 50, and VAR Business 500 awards in recognition of its rapid growth.

Unique Contributions to the AIDC Industry

In the past, companies implementing Auto ID Data Capture (AIDC) technology have suffered project failure rates of 30 - 40%. Barcoding Inc. has developed a business method of assessing customer requirements, designing systems, and deploying them so the project failure rate approaches zero. Using this strategy, they have built a business literally from the ground up, going from zero to $20 million in revenue in six years.

Along the way, they have invented several new technologies, such as a patent-pending system for remote battery optimization in portable devices, and a unqiue wireless intrusion detection system for enhancing wireless LAN security. For these and other accomplishment, they have received numerous awards.

History

The business was founded in 1996 by Jay Steinmetz and Andrew Stern. Originally called "CaptureTech LLC," Steinmetz's former partner looted the company and ran away with more than $100,000 of cash and inventory. At the height of their dispute, Stern filed an assault complaint against Steinmetz, causing him to be locked up overnight. The charges were soon dropped, and Stern fled the state.

Left unable to pay its debts, the business was placed in receivership. The receiver successfully sued Stern and obtained a large money judgement, which remains unsatisfied as of 2005.

With the help of friends, Steinmetz raised a modest amount of money from private investors and recapitalized a new business. Damaged relationships with suppliers were repaired, and the business began to grow. After several difficult years the company developed a strong web marketing strategy that generated numerous sales leads. Through an exclusively web based marketing campaign, the company has developed business relationships with thousands of clients, including major multi-national corporations, government agencies, and small businesses.

As of 2005, Barcoding Inc. is well-known within the AIDC industry and maintains close relationships with leading hardware manufacturers, including Symbol Technologies, Intermec, and Zebra Technologies.
